Masoor Dal

masoor dal one of the easy dals i make at home is very tasty & healthy recipe.
Here is simple to make kali masoor ki daal must try out.

  • Prep: 50 mins
  • Cook: 2 hrs 10 mins
  • Serves: 7 servings


1/2 kg Masoor dal/lentils

2: 1/2 cup of oil

1 large glass Milk

2 Tomatoes

1 large Onion

5 to 6 chopped Green chilli

1 tsp garlic

1tsp Turmeric powder

1 tsp Cumin seeds

1 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder

2tsp Salt

1 hand full Fresh coriander

1 tsp garam masala

7to8 Glasses of water


1Wash the dal/lentils and strain the water out.

2In a pressure cooker, add the washed dal/lentils, onions, tomatoes, salt, red chili powder,

3turmeric and water.

4Mix well and cover the pressure cooker with its lid cook on high flame.

5Wait till the whistle starts moving, once it starts moving, time it for 15 minutes from then turn

6the stove off, remove the whistle, wait for the steam to settle down and then open the lid.

7It depends what type of consistency you prefer. If you want it to be thick,

8cook more and if you want it to be watery then cook less. Add the milk and mix well.

9Cook it for further 5 minutes.

10In a frying pan, add half a cup of oil, add garlic and cumin seeds and fry till golden.

11Once golden, add the green chillies and a hand full of fresh coriander

12and then add it to the dal/lentils and 1 1/2 tsp of garam masala and mix well.

13Serve hot with rice or chapati.
